In high school baseball, Dwight got a six-inning no hitter from Logan Graham. He also struck out 12 and at the plate, he also homered, collected two hits and drove in three runs in a 10-0 win at Cissna Park. Olympia defeated Prairie Central, 7-2.
In softball, Prairie Central dropped its Illini Prairie Conference opener to Olympia, 15-3. Dwight fell to Bishop McNamara, 7-6, at Kankakee. The Fighting Irish plated the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Ian Happ homered on the first pitch of the Major League Baseball season, the first time that’s happened since 1986, as the Chicago Cubs beat the Marlins, 8-4, in Miami.
The White Sox belted six homeruns, including three from Matt Davidson in a 14-7 season-opening win at Kansas City.

The Chicago Blackhawks had to turn to their emergency goaltender after their two goalies were injured. Scott Foster, an accountant who hadn’t played competitive hockey since college 12 years ago, came in for the final 14 minutes and stopped all seven shots he faced in the Hawks’ 6-2 win over Winnipeg Jets.

Pontiac’s High School baseball program will host an Easter Egg Hunt for all of its feeder school Kindergarten students following its game next Monday against Bloomington. Game time is 4:30. The program’s first ‘K-Day’ invites all kindergarten students to the game that day. Following the game, students in attendance, along with members of the Indians Varsity team will participate in the hunt in the outfield of the PTHS baseball facility.
