The Livingston County Humane Society is looking for volunteers to take pets to visit residents at nursing and assisted living homes.
Karen Gregory explains how they go about this new program.
“Each Monday, April through October, anyone who has a couple of hours, we leave the shelter at 12:30. We are back and in place by 3 p.m. It’s very rewarding for the senior citizens in the nursing homes and assisted living homes, some who don’t have visitors at all. It’s a wonderful way to give back to your community,” Gregory said.
Gregory also explained that they have new hours at the shelter.
“Monday through Friday we’re open from 12 to 4:30. Wednesday we are open from 12 to 6 because we have the Tales for Tails Program going on, and Saturday is 11 to 2,” Gregory said.
The shelter is located at 21179 N. 1358 East Road north of Pontiac.
