In high school baseball, Fieldcrest won at Ridgeview, 7-2. Derrick May struck out eight Mustangs while allowing one earned run for the Knights.

 

Roanoke-Benson shutout Woodland-Flanagan-Cornell, 9-0, at South Streator.

 

In softball, Woodland-Flanagan-Cornell blanked Low Point-Washburn, 14-0, in five innings at South Streator. Freshman Aubrey Jenkins had three hits, including two homeruns and drove in five runs in the win.

 

The Chicago Cubs home opener with the Pirates was postponed by snow. They will make it up this afternoon.

 

New St. Louis Cardinals’ closer Greg Holland has rough debut. Holland walked four batters in the 10th inning to force in the winning run in Milwaukee’s 5-4 win.

 

The Chicago White Sox ninth-inning rally stalled in a 5-4 home loss to Tampa Bay. The Sox had the potential tying and winning runs in scoring position with nobody out, but the next three batters grounded out.

 

The Chicago Bulls lost their final road game of the season, 114-105, to Brooklyn. The’ Bulls home finale is Wednesday.

 

Chicago Blackhawks’ star Patrick Kane has been named the U.S. hockey captain at the IIHF World Hockey Championships in Denmark next month.

 

Green Bay Packers receiver Trevor Davis has been charged with making criminal threats after joking about a bomb at the Los Angeles International Airport. LAX police say Davis was taken into custody and released pending a court date.
