Help Spread the Word to End the Word by participating in the Run for Respect, happening in Pontiac Saturday, April 21.
PTHS Life Skills Teacher Laura Baumgardner explains that the cost to participate is kept small, but the money collected that day benefits many aspects of what her students do.
“Any money we do raise goes to Special Olympics Illinois, all of our Unified Champion programs (Unified Basketball, Unified Soccer and Unified Bass Fishing) and our traditional track and field, and we also use the money for our annual Life Skills play. We just had ‘Jack and the Beanstalk,’” Baumgardner said.
Baumgardner also explains that if you can’t make it to Pontiac for the event, there is a virtual run that can be done from anywhere in any country in the world.
“Even if you say, ‘I want to come to the Run for Respect on the 21st, but I’m busy.’ You can sign up for the virtual run and you can just take a picture at some fun place or just in your back yard, and you can still support us by doing that,” Baumgardner said.
There is still time to sign up. Visit runforrespect.weebly.com/5k1-mile.html to register.
