Kiwanis hears about upcoming 25th state football championship celebration

By Cynthia Grau/WJEZ News

The Pontiac Kiwanis met Wednesday and heard about plans for a 25th anniversary celebration honoring the Pontiac football team who brought home a state championship in 1993.

Coach Mick Peterson, who was head coach of that team, reminisced about that entire season, and talked about plans for the three-day celebration, taking place during the 2018 Threshermen’s Reunion from August 31 through September 2.

Some of those festivities include recognition of all those in attendance at the home opener for the 2018 version of the Pontiac Indians against Tolono Unity during halftime; a family social honoring squad members, coaching staff and all managers, school and city administrators as well as members of the media who covered the team back in 1993; and the team will be honored during the Threshermen’s Parade with a float that players, coaches, managers and cheerleaders will be given the opportunity to ride.

Limited tickets will be available to the general public for the family social.
