Village of Cornell looks for ‘friendship fence’ participants

The Village of Cornell is planning the annual Garden Walk and Friendship Fence Display featuring Garage Sales July 13 and 14, and they’re looking for interested residents to sign up for any or all of the three events.

Organizer Gale Donze explained the Friendship Fences.

“These are mini picket fences or any kind of a fence you’d like to have to decorate your yard. You can put flowers on them. We ask that there be one pair of shoes on it to indicate that it’s a friendly fence with a pair of shoes on it. Anything you’d like to put in our garden or yard to decorate and any way you’d like to do it,” Donze said.

Donze said they’re hoping people have their mailers returned to Village Hall by May 1.

“We sent a letter out to everyone in the Cornell mailing route to see if they’d like to have a Friendship Shoe Fence in their yard or have their garden in the garden walk or have a garage sale. So, we would like those forms filled out, along with their phone number, and returned to the Village Hall by the first of May, if possible, so we can judge how many we’ll have and we want to make a map for everyone. That doesn’t mean they should have their gardens and fences ready by then. They should be ready by the first of July to be judged,” Donze said.
