In baseball, Pontiac lost in extra innings to Olympia, 5-1, at Williamson Field.  The Indians tied the game in the seventh to force extra innings before the Spartans played four runs in the 9th to get the win. Fieldcrest edged Lexington, 6-5. Tremont crushed Ridgeview, 15-0. El Paso-Gridley was shutout at home by Tri-Valley, 6-0.

The Chicago Cubs return to Cleveland on Tuesday for the first time since winning Game 7 of the World Series in November 2016. The Cubs and Indians start a two-game series.

 

The Chicago White Sox erupted with a five-run first inning and cruised to a 10-4 win over Seattle to snap a seven-game losing streak.

 

The St. Louis Cardinals open a home series against the New York Mets.

 

Illinois State and Illinois Wesleyan rekindle their annual rivalry on the diamond tonight as the Titans host the Horenberger-Bass Classic. The Redbirds are 8-2 in the series since it was renewed in 2004.

 

Illinois State has reportedly landed a pair of transfer guards. Dedric Boyd, a 6-4 freshman guard at Eastern Kentucky, has announced he’s coming to ISU. The website Fanrag Sports reports Jayce Hillman, a Champaign native and a junior from San Jose State, is coming to ISU as well. Both will have to sit out next season per NCAA transfer rules.

 

Return specialist Devin Hester and running back Matt Forte officially ended their football careers on Monday by signing one-day contracts so both could retire as Chicago Bears, where both spent much of their careers.
