Adult guardianship and visitation is a hot topic in Springfield as the lawmakers move several pieces of legislation through the General Assembly.

On Monday, House Bill 4687 passed out of the Illinois House, which State Representative Tom Bennett explained.

“The bill amends a statute that currently allows adult children to petition the court for visitation rights if a guardian were unreasonably preventing them from seeing their parents. What this bill does is expands those able to petition the court for visitation rights and will also include a spouse, adult grandchild, parent or adult sibling,” Bennett said.

The bill, which passed the house with a 109-0 vote now moves on to the Senate.
