In softball, Pontiac’s Amanda Fox homered and struck out 14 in the Indians’ 6-2 win at Monticello. Prairie Central got a solo homer from Amber Graf but it wasn’t enough in a 2-1 loss to Olympia. Fieldcrest fell to Tri-Valley, 3-1, despite 10 strikeouts from Emma Lorton. Woodland-Flanagan-Cornell topped Henry-Senachwine, 7-4 in a Tri-County Conference game.

In baseball, Pontiac fell to Monticello, 9-5. Ridgeview got 14 strikeouts from Sean Nunnamaker in an 8-1 win over Judah Christian in Champaign. Woodland-Flanagan-Cornell bested Henry-Senachwine, 6-1.

Ridgeview was tops among eight schools at the girls track invitational. The Mustangs had two competitors take home multiple titles. Mya Tinsley came in first in the 100- and 200-meter runs. Jayden Standish won the 800-meter run and discus.

The Chicago Bears selected Georgia linebacker Roquan Smith with their first pick in the NFL Draft. The Cleveland Browns took Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Baker Mayfield with the top pick.

Kyle Schwarber’s solo homerun was the only support Kyle Hendricks and two relievers would need to help the Cubs end the Brewers’ eight-game wining streak in the Cubs’ 1-0 win at Wrigley Field.

Matt Davidson hit two of the Chicago White Sox five homeruns in a 6-3 win at Kansas City.

Dexter Flower’s walkoff single in the 13th inning capped a St. Louis Cardinals’ comeback which saw them tie it in the eighth and tenth innings to beat the New York Mets, 4-3.

Illinois State greats Heather Stella and Kara Nelson have been named to the Missouri Valley Conference Softball 25-Year Team. The Valley is marking the 25th anniversary of women’s sports in the league.
