In baseball, Pontiac fell behind early and couldn’t come back in a 13-8 loss to Prairie Central at Dozer Park in Peoria.  Prairie Central scored 10 runs in the second inning.

 

In softball, Pontiac scored 14 runs in the 6th inning to finish off Reed Custer, 19-4. The Indians banged out 25 hits. Amanda Fox homered twice. Lexington cruised past Cornerstone Christian Academy of Bloomington, 14-3.

 

Dwight and Momence were suspended by rain in the fifth inning with the Trojans leading 3-2.

 

What started as a promising homestand for the Chicago Cubs ended in back to back losses. The Rockies crushed Yu Darvish and the Cubs bullpen for an 11-2 win.

 

Carlos Martinez hit his first major league homerun and pitched into the 8th inning allowing only one run in the St. Louis Cardinals 3-2 win over the White Sox. The Cards sweep the two-game set.

 

Illinois State got a break from mother nature. The Redbirds’ game was called after seven innings because of storms. The Redbirds had just taken the lead in the top of the seventh inning, scoring three runs at Northern Illinois for a 7-6 win over the Huskies.

 

A 6-foot-9 prep standout from Senegal has announced he’s coming to Illinois State. Abdou Ndiaye who averaged 27 points and 14 rebounds per game at a prep school in Florida had reportedly turned down offers from Wichita State, Georgetown and others to come to ISU.

 

Quarterback Alex Tanney has signed with the New York Giants. The Tennessee Titans released the Lexington native five days ago after he had spent parts of the last three seasons with them.
