In baseball, Dwight won at Iroquois West, 5-2. El Paso-Gridley romped over Ridgeview, 20-2, in five innings. Prairie Central fell to Tri-Valley, 11-6. Putnam County scored the game’s only run in the top of the 8th inning for a 1-0 win over Woodland-Flanagan-Cornell in Tri-County Conference play.

 

Softball, Dwight rolled to a 16-0 win over Iroquois West at Gilman. Woodland-Flanagan-Cornell edged Putnam County, 2-1, scoring the winning run on the help of a walk and two errors.

 

Kris Bryant came home for the winning run on a fielder’s choice in the eighth inning as the Chicago Cubs edged the Miami Marlins, 4-3.

 

The Cardinals managed to score just one run in their brief two-game home series with the Minnesota Twins at Busch Stadium. The Cards collected two hits in a 7-1 loss on Tuesday.

 

The Chicago White Sox lost to the Pirates, 10-6.

 

For the first time in major league baseball history, a Canadian-born pitcher has thrown a no-hitter in his native land. Seattle’s James Paxton n0-hit the Toronto Blue Jays, 5-0. It’s the third no-hitter in baseball this season.

 

Pitcher Danny Farquhar visited his White Sox teammates before their game on Tuesday, for the first time since collapsing in the dugout with a brain hemorrhage during a game last month. Doctors say he might be able to pitch again someday.

 

Illinois State head men’s basketball coach Dan Muller has announced the signing of transfer Keith Fisher III. The San Jose State transfer comes to ISU with three years of eligibility remaining. He led San Jose State in rebounding and steals and finished second in scoring as a redshirt freshman.
