New opening of Pontiac’s splash pad

Construction at the splash pad at Humiston Riverside Park, funded by the Humiston Trust, has hit a few bumps in the past few months, moving the expected open date later than the original June date.

Taylor Baxter, director of Pontiac Parks and Recreation, explains what is happening with the park.

“The expected date we’re comfortably talking about is the end of July. I talked to our representative at Farnsworth and there have been some issues, obviously, that’s why there hasn’t been much construction going on, but our final revision plan is sent down to Springfield, so we’re on the final stretch and final revision and once that is sent back to us, construction can start again,” Baxter said.

Baxter continues, explaining what people can see at the park now.

“So right now, it is just the front entrance. On either side there’s a bathroom, men’s and women’s. And that’s pretty much it that’s there right now. There’s a lot of dirt around, just getting ready to put in the plumbing and all the electrical work, all of that. That’s all we got right now. Once we finally get that final revision from Springfield, all of that will begin,” Baxter said.
