Kiwanis hears of Drug Court progress

The Pontiac Kiwanis met Wednesday and speakers for the day were officials involved with the new Livingston County Drug Court.

Probation Officer Heidi Zeidenstein talked about the progress the program has made.

“We expected it to start a little slow, because we wanted the word to get out. Once the word gets out amongst other clients, I think we’ll get the snowball effect. We currently have one candidate. We are staffing two more tomorrow for possible clients for possible candidates for the program. Their offenses range from delivery of cannabis, driving while license revoked as a felony and the new one was an aggravated battery without bodily harm. I’m hoping we have several clients. Our goal is about ten and we are in the learning process, so we’re learning as we go. Luckily, we have Randy (Yedinak) who’s been on two other drug courts and our public defender has been involved with three specialty courts. We’re really lucky on that end,” Zeidenstein said.
