Carter Dawson’s bases-clearing double drove in all three Pontiac runs in a 3-1 win over Clinton in the Class 3A U-High Regional baseball tournament at Williamson Field. Dawson also pitched six strong innings for the win which sends the Indians into the regional semifinals. The seventh-seeded Indians will play No. 2 seed University High on Wednesday at Duffy Bass Field in Normal.

Zach Moritz of Fieldcrest High School has been awarded a State Farm Holiday Classic Scholarship award. Moritz is one of four students to receive a $1,000 scholarship to go directly to their college of choice for tuition costs. Moritz played basketball, football and baseball for the Knights and also participated on the Academic Challenge Team and the Drama Club. He plans to major in Exercise Science at The Citadel.

Former Illinois State athletics director Sheahon Zenger has been fired as AD at Kansas. He had been the AD there since 2011 when he left ISU. The chancellor at Kansas posted a message online that ‘progress in key areas’ of the athletic department ‘has been elusive.’
Illinois State’s quarterback on its 2014 FCS national runner-up, Tre Roberson has signed as a defensive back with the Calgary Stampede of the Canadian Football League. Roberson’s grandfather, the late Larry Highbaugh was a CFL star in the 1970s and 80s for the Edmonton Eskimos.
