PONTIAC – The Lipton Tea Company came to Pontiac over the weekend to celebrate the Mother Road.
Pontiac City Administrator Bob Karls said Lipton selected Pontiac because it connected perfectly with an ad campaign that was already under development.
“They had a marketing firm that was developing this concept of Lipton Tea and a road trip and they immediately went to Route 66,” Karls explained.
Karls said once the company focused on Route 66, they selected Pontiac as the town that would represent their ideas.
The company served food and Lipton Iced Tea products throughout the weekend. Lipton also commissioned a new mural. In addition to Route 66, the event also helped celebrate National Iced Tea day on Sunday.
