PONTIAC – In an ongoing process to find a cure for Alzheimer’s, the Alzheimer’s Association has a number of fundraisers planned to help people taking care of a loved one with the disease.

Speaking with WJEZ’s Todd Wineburner, Activity Director at Accolade Healthcare Kathy Finkenbinder said sometimes the caregivers can need a helping hand themselves.

You can hear Kathy Finkenbinder tell WJEZ’s Todd Wineburner about all the fundraisers coming up this summer:

“We caregive for Alzheimer’s every day, but sometimes we don’t think of the caregiver. The Alzheimer’s Association is a big support for caregivers and education in support groups going on,” Finkenbinder explained.

Finkenbinder said money provided during the fundraisers will help the Alzheimer’s Association further its research as it continues to put and end to Alzheimer’s.

“It’s just our passion. You’ll see floods of purple shirts every time we’re doing an event. We have sponsors that were great to help us out with starting and kicking off our campaign,” said Finkenbinder. “Towards the end, before September, we’d like to come back and name all those sponsors and let them know how much we’ve really enjoyed working with them. We’ve all got to step in.”

Finkenbinder noted one in three people can be diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. She said the Alzheimer’s Association’s goal is to see that statistic change to one in fifty.
