PONTIAC – The Democratic candidate seeking to unseat Adam Kinzinger in the midterm elections this fall visited Pontiac this week to provide details of her platform.
Sara Dady is looking to win Illinois’ 16th Congressional District seat this November. The 16th district covers all of Boone, Bureau, Grundy, Iroquois, LaSalle, Lee, Livingston, Ogle, and Putnam counties and parts of DeKalb, Ford, Stark, Will, and Winnebago counties. Kinzinger, a Republican, has served as representative of the 16th district since 2013.
Speaking at the rally this week, Dady said she wants to see health care reform across the country.
“Even with this tax cut, so-called for the middle class last winter, the cost of health care is eating up that extra $50 or $75 a paycheck. It can’t continue,” said Dady. “Until we address health care in this country, until we pass Medicare for all and take the burden of health care off the backs of employers and employees, we’re going to continue to struggle.”
Dady also said the recent trade disputes between the United States and China, Canada, and Mexico are making it harder for farmers to do their jobs and support themselves. She explained the country needs to be open to trade with those nations and not throw farmers to the wayside to make a point.
“We should be talking about opening up markets and fair trade, not closing markets and destroying lives,” Dady said.
Dady explained she also doesn’t want to see “cut the legs out from underneath” from unions.
