Most everyone knows that distracted driving is a problem, but not everyone thinks that it’s a problem that applies to them.

In July, the Pontiac Police Department conducted surveys of drivers who were seen using a cell phone while behind the wheel.

Plain clothes officers watched traffic for one hour at a time and saw subjects either holding a cell phone to their ear or holding the phone in their field of vision while operating a vehicle.

On average, during peak driving times, the PPD reports someone was seen on a cell phone every two minutes.

The survey is a lead-in to the department’s conducted enforcement of cell phone traffic laws that goes into action this weekend and a reminder that in July of 2019 – using a cell phone while driving becomes a moving violation.
