Published reports from the weekend say PTHS made a new mark on sports history. At the annual Pontiac wrestling invitational on Saturday, the first ever all-girls division took to the mat.
Close to 40 competitors were vying for medals alongside their male counterparts.
While Pontiac has had female wrestlers in the past, there is a current push to introduce all-girls divisions and teams, and that push gained even more momentum on Saturday.
Women’s wrestling is currently an Olympic sport and progress has been made at the collegiate level with scholarships available.
As far as what the boys think, the Pontiac wrestling team has been extremely supportive, as one Pontiac wrestler has called the girls very inspirational.
