Illinois American Water will be flushing water mains and fire hydrants starting next week, with the work scheduled to continue throughout Livingston County through September 25th. Karen Cotton, Illinois American’s External Affairs Manager, says the flushing of the system is an annual process that removes sediment from the water mains and tests fire hydrants for proper operation.
The flushing process may create a temporary drop in water pressure. There may also be times when discolored water comes from household fixtures. If water is discolored, homeowners should allow their cold water to run until the discoloration is gone. The company also recommends checking the water before doing laundry and postponing washing until the water runs clear.
The flushing will be done during daytime hours. Customers will be notified about the work through Illinois American’s customer notification system, and through online alerts at www.illinoisamwater.com.
