The City of Fairbury reviewed its old city ordinance pertaining to door-to-door solicitors after many complaints from residents, and approved a new one last Wednesday.

Fairbury Police Chief Mark Travis said this will hopefully eliminate the problems they were encountering before.

“If someone wants to come in and solicit, they’ll have to fill out a two-page application with their information and vehicle information that they will be soliciting in, and they have to pay $50, non-refundable, and we would have 15 working days to give them a permit or deny the application. For each solicitor that will be soliciting, there will be a $50 fee, and that is non-refundable, as well. Everything expires December 31 of each year and if they don’t renew by then, then they will have to go through the application process again,” Travis said.
