Pontiac boys basketball beat Yorkville 35-26 at the Dean Riley tournament in Ottawa. GCMS, LeRoy and Prairie Central boys won at GCMS. Ridgeview, Flanagan-Cornell and Dwight won in the Route 17 Classic. Fieldcrest beat Lexington 78-42.

 

Paxton-Buckley-Loda took a 60-53 girls win over Pontiac.

 

Illinois State women’s basketball couldn’t withstand injuries to three key players combined with cold shooting in a 59-45 loss to Yale on Tuesday on Doug Collins Court at Redbird Arena. Redbirds Hannah Green, Taylor Stewart and Viria Livingston all left the game with injuries. Green led the Redbirds with 10 points.

 

UW-Whitewater went on a 9-0 run to start the final quarter to break a tie and defeat the Illinois Wesleyan women 66-55. Senior Gabrielle Holness led the Titans with 15 points. The Titans’ leading scorer Molly McGraw left the game with an ankle injury. IWU hosts the Midwest Challenge on Saturday and Sunday.

 

The Illinois Wesleyan men rolled over MacMurray 87-54 to improve to 4-0. Brady Rose led the Titans with 15 points. IWU hit 17 three-pointers on a school record-tying 39 attempts. The Titan men visit Number 8 Ohio Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon.

 

The team the Illinois State men beat last week, Fort Wayne, knocked off Number 3 Indiana 71-68 in overtime. Bradley rebounded with a 70-62 win over Wofford in the Gulf Coast Showcase.

 

The NCAA has taken away football victories from Notre Dame in 2012 and 2013 for academic misconduct by a former student athletic trainer.

 

The new NHL team in Las Vegas will be known as the Vegas Golden Knights.

 

Bloomington Thunder hockey is at Dubuque tonight at 7.

 

Normal West baseball coach Chris Hawkins has been selected for induction into the Illinois High School Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame.  Coach Hawkins has a career record of 442-178 in his 17 seasons as head baseball coach at Normal West High School.  He has won six conference championships, seven regional titles, and one sectional title.

 

Normal West softball coach April Schermann was named the Sectional Softball Coach of the Year by the Illinois Softball Coaches Association for the Spring 2016 season.  Coach Schermann guided the Wildcats to a 29-10 record and a second place finish in the IHSA Class 4A State Softball Finals.
