After the November 8 election, many who weren’t happy with the outcome took to the streets to show their dismay. Some of that simple protesting turned violent, and Congressman Adam Kinzinger has some advice for those still feeling down.
“I felt the same way in ’08 and ’12, when we lost the races. Obviously, it’s not the way I wanted it to go. But, ultimately, you have the greatest opportunity to have your voices heard at the ballot box and everybody has a right to demonstrate and protest. When it goes to violence and burning things, that’s when it goes too far. I’d say give Donald Trump the next couple of months to put his team together, give him the time he needs to bring everybody together. There’s obviously going to be some policies that come out of this administration that some folks don’t agree with. That’s the nature of politics. But I think Donald Trump is going to reach out to the other side of the aisle on areas we can work together and really be a departure from the last, frankly, decade or so where you see one party come in and try to get their entire way. It remains to be seen. Let’s let this process work out and ultimately, we should celebrate the fact that we can have our voice heard,” Kinzinger said.
