Illinois State women’s basketball surged ahead late and captured a 60-49 victory over Eastern Illinois on Thursday at Redbird Arena. Brechelle Beachum led the Redbirds with 24 points.

In girls high school basketball, Dwight shot only 24 percent from the field in a 38-32 loss at Paxton-Buckley-Loda. Central Catholic defeated Prairie Central 58-48.

Boys high school basketball kicks into gear tonight with highlight games including Pontiac hosting Olympia and Peoria Manual traveling to Bloomington.

The Cardinals have traded veteran lefty Jaime Garcia to the Braves for three prospects.

Indiana football coach Kevin Wilson resigned after a 6-6 season. He’s replaced by defensive coordinator Tom Allen. Wilson was 26-47 in six seasons with the Hoosiers.
