Snow days and how they are decided

With Livingston County Schools being called off for low wind chills and icy road conditions on Monday, an explanation of how that decision is made was given.

Regional Superintendent of Schools Mark Jontry was a guest on a recent community forum and said school superintendents typically make the call, but a lot of factors go into it.

“There’s a few things they take into consideration. One of them, first and foremost, is the general health and welfare of the student. That involves the temperature. I will tell you there’s no magic number, per se…It’s just generally taking into account what is too bitterly cold,” Jontry said.
