The 100th General Assembly begins today in Springfield after the swearing in of new members, which leads lawmakers back to where they were – creating a state budget.

State Senator Jason Barickman said Tuesday the budget couldn’t be created and passed in those final two days before the end of the 99th General Assembly, and he gives Illinois residents his reason why.

“If this is a proposal that is worth considering, we ought to consider it like we do other proposals, which means run it through the legislative process, let the public have an opportunity to be heard, let them reach out to all of us legislators who represent them, and make sure when we’re ultimately when we’re asked to cast yes or no votes, that we have a good understanding of the impact that this proposal will have on not only the state that needs to see progress, but our own districts and the constituents we are here to represent,” Barickman said.
