Top-ranked Ridgeview won’t make it back to the boys basketball state finals as the Mustangs lost to Newark 43-32 in the Class 1a Super-sectional at Redbird Arena. Ridgeview ends the season 30-2.

Bloomington’s Purple Raiders head to Peoria tonight for the Class 3a Sectional against Rock Falls at Bradley University.

In college basketball, four more automatic bids were handed out to the NCAA tournament. Northern Kentucky clinched an NCAA bid in its first year of eligibility by beating Milwaukee for the Horizon League title. Mount St. Mary’s won the Northeast Conference title. South Dakota State took the Summit League title. Gonzaga took the West Coast Conference championship.

The Big 10 tournament tips off tonight in Washington D.C. Illinois plays in the quarterfinals tomorrow against Michigan for the right to play top-seed Purdue. When asked about his future Illini coach John Groce said his focus is on the Wolverines.
