In high school softball, El Paso-Gridley beat Prairie Central 9-7 and Woodland-Flanagan-Cornell run-ruled Gardner 14-3. On the high school baseball diamonds, Pontiac beat Ottawa 7-3, Prairie Central clobbered Fisher 10-3 and Gardner beat Woodland-Flanagan-Cornell 8-3.
Half of the Elite Eight is set in the NCAA men’s basketball tournament with one upset recorded on the first night of the Sweet 16. 11-seed Xavier knocked off 2-seed Arizona 73-71, while Oregon edged Michigan 69-68, Gonzaga held on for a 61-58 win over West Virginia and Kansas throttled Purdue 98-66. The remaining Sweet 16 games are tonight as Butler faces North Carolina and UCLA takes on Kentucky in Memphis, and South Carolina meets Baylor and Wisconsin plays Florida in New York.
The Blackhawks beat the Stars 3-2 in a shootout. The Blues handled the Canucks 4-1.
