Illinois State officially introduced Kristen Gillespie as its new head women’s basketball coach. She’s a former player under the legendary Kay Yow at North Carolina State, and has been a head coach for six seasons at the Division II and III levels.

 

The Cubs edged the Cardinals 2-1 behind six strong innings from Jake Arrieta and a home-run-robbing catch in the seventh inning by Albert Almora. The series concludes this afternoon with John Lackey on the hill for the Cubs against the Cardinals’ Lance Lynn.

 

The White Sox lost their season opener to the visiting Tigers 6-3. The rematch is this afternoon on the South Side, Jordan Zimmerman against James Shields.

 

The Knicks beat the Bulls 100-91.

 

The Blackhawks fell in overtime at Colorado 4-3 while the Winnipeg Jets beat the Blues 5-2.
