Illinois softball defeated Butler 8-2 for the Illini’s eighth straight win. The Illini visit Nebraska tomorrow.

 

An Illinois State baseball comeback fell short at Notre Dame as the Irish held on for a 7-6 win. The Redbirds resume Missouri Valley Conference play tomorrow with a weekend series at Bradley.

 

Illinois Wesleyan baseball captured a 3-1 win at Elmhurst. The Titans are at North Central College on Saturday.

 

Illinois State softball swept Bradley 9-1 and 6-5 at Marian Kneer Stadium. Jordan de los Reyes ended the nightcap with a three-run homer and became the all-time Redbird RBI leader with 169, after becoming the fifth Redbird with 200 hits earlier in the game. The Redbirds host Missouri State this weekend beginning with a Saturday doubleheader.

 

Illinois Wesleyan softball split a doubleheader at Whitewater, dropping the opener 12-2 before winning 14-9. IWU is at Carthage on Saturday.

 

From Wednesday’s high school baseball, Tremont defeated Fieldcrest 2-0 on a no-hitter from Silas Israel and Blue Ridge defeated El Paso-Gridley 14-8.

 

In prep softball, Tremont edged Fieldcrest 5-4, LeRoy beat Woodland-Flanagan-Cornell 8-4 and EPG pounded Blue Ridge 11-0 on a five-inning no-hitter by Maegen Stone.

 

The Cardinals completed a sweep of the Pirates with a 2-1 win behind two homers from Dexter Fowler and six and two-thirds innings from Michael Wacha. The Cardinals visit Milwaukee tonight with Carlos Martinez on the hill for St. Louis against the Brewers’ Zach Davies.

 

The Cubs walked off with a 7-4 win over the Brewers on a three-run homer by Addison Russell after Kris Bryant tied the game in the ninth inning with an RBI single. The Cubs are off today before a weekend series in Cincinnati.

 

The Yankees powered their way to a 9-1 win over the White Sox with four home runs. The Sox take today off before coming home to face the Indians tomorrow.

 

The Minnesota Wild stayed alive with a 2-0 Game 4 win over the Blues. St. Louis leads the series 3-1 with Game 5 on Saturday in Minnesota.

 

The Blackhawks try to fight off elimination tonight in Nashville in Game 4 of their series, as the Predators try to sweep on home ice.
