Fighting Illini softball opens the NCAA Kentucky Regional on Friday afternoon against Marshall.

Illinois State softball advances to the championship round of the National Invitational Softball Classic after beating Michigan State 6-0. The Spartans came from behind in the first game to force the winner-take-all contest. The Redbirds travel to Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia for the national finals beginning Sunday.

Illinois Wesleyan softball lost 3-1 to Transylvania in the opener of a best-of-three super-regional on Friday afternoon.

In high school softball, Pontiac beat Coal City 4-3.

The CornBelters split a doubleheader with Gateway, winning the opener 7-0 and dropping the nightcap 8-4. The Belters host the Florence Freedom tonight.

Illinois baseball hosts Iowa in a Friday doubleheader.

The Cubs beat the Reds 9-5 behind a grand slam from Javier Baez and a homer from Kris Bryant. The Cubs host the Brewers today. Paulo Espino starts for the first-place Brewers and the Cubs counter with Eddie Butler.
The Mariners beat the White Sox 5-4 as pinch hitter Guillermo Heredia singled home Jarrod Dyson with two outs in the ninth inning. The series continues tonight in Seattle. Jose Quintana climbs the bump for the Sox against Ariel Miranda for the Ms.
The Anaheim Ducks beat the Nashville Predators 3-2 in overtime to even the NHL Western Conference finals at two games apiece.
A new award in college golf will be named in honor of Bloomington native Mark Laesch who died in March. The Golf Coaches Association of America and Women’s Golf Coaches Association will award the first annual Mark Laesch Awards following the NCAA Division I Women’s and Men’s Golf Championships. Laesch was considered one of golf’s top innovators. He created Golfstat which became one of the top resources for college golf analytics.
