Illinois budget unsettlement worries state’s agriculture sector

There is a bill that may help the farmers of Illinois.

The bill is now awaiting Gov. Bruce Rauner’s attention; however, the unsettled state budget for the 2016 fiscal year battle worries the state’s agriculture sector.

Several bills passed trucking regulations and when electricity transmission lines can be built across private property by the General Assembly, which had support of the Illinois Farm Bureau.

Farm Bureau President Richard Guebert expressed concern for the state budget. “If we do not have a budget by July 1, it will get really interesting, as the state determines what to do with its payroll, paying bills, grants for services, and other duties of the state,” said Guebert.

Guebert added that the two sides should find “appropriate funding mechanisms,” particularly for agriculture programs.
