A major league umpire is credited with helping save the life of a woman in Pittsburgh yesterday. John Tumpane was returning to his hotel from a run and spotted the woman on a bridge rail. He held onto her and talked with her until emergency personnel arrived, then worked home plate as the Pirates took on the Rays.
