The Cubs rallied for a 7-3 win over the Rays. Ian Happ broke a tie with a two-run single in the seventh inning after Jon Jay drove his third career pinch-hit home run, a three-run shot to tie the game in the sixth. The Cubs host the Brewers this afternoon in a make-up game as Milwaukee sends right hander Zach Davies to the hill while the Cubs hand the ball to lefty Mike Montgomery.
The White Sox lost at Oakland 7-4 as starter Mike Pelfrey gave up four runs in his 3 1/3 innings. The Sox are off today before opening a weekend series tomorrow at Colorado.
The Cardinals fell 9-6 to the Marlins as Miami scored five times in the second inning, aided by two St. Louis errors, and Giancarlo Stanton smacked two home runs. The series concludes this afternoon at Busch Stadium with right-handers Tom Koehler for the Marlins and Michael Wacha for the Cardinals on the mound.​
The CornBelters lost 6-2 to the Washington Wild Things after the guests scored five times in the eighth inning to take the lead. The rubber game of the series is tonight at 6:35 at the Corn Crib. The Belters’ home stand continues through Sunday with a three-game weekend series with the Traverse City Beach Bums.
The Bulls have signed No. 7 overall draft pick Lauri Markkanen. The team didn’t disclose the terms of the deal yesterday.
