The Pontiac Fire department responded to a small blaze in a second story apartment in downtown Pontiac.

According to Fire Chief Scott Runyon, the call came in around 10:30 Saturday night, when a neighbor to 109 ½ N. Mill Street, Apartment D, noticed smoke coming out from under the door.

When firefighters arrived, they found carpeting or a blanket burning on the floor in the middle of a room.

Runyon said the fire was contained to that room and the apartment is unlivable at this time due to smoke and heat damage.

The cause of the fire is unattended candles.

Responding with Pontiac included Saunemin, Cullom and Fairbury departments at the scene and Cornell, Flanagan and Odell departments covering the Pontiac Fire Department.
