In high school volleyball Pontiac took a straight-set win over Streator 25-17, 25-11. Dwight lost to Coal City in three sets. Flanagan-Cornell defeated Roanoke.

Illinois State has given men’s basketball coach Dan Muller a seven-year contract extension. Muller led the Redbirds to their first Missouri Valley Conference regular season title in nearly 20 years last season. Muller’s salary will increase to $550,000 next season.

Matt Carpenter homered in his first game since pledging $10,000 for each homer he hits for Hurricane Harvey efforts as the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Brewers 10-2. Carpenter’s donation is being matched by both teammate Adam Wainwight and the Cardinals.
