The Bears earned their first win of the season, but had to play overtime to get it. Jordan Howard scored from 19 yards out to give the Bears a 23-17 victory over the Steelers. That overcame an embarrassing gaffe by Marcus Cooper Sr. at the end of the first half, who cost the Bears a touchdown when he let up short of the goal line on a blocked field goal return and the ball was knocked away and out of the end zone. The Bears settled for a field goal. The 1-2 Bears visit Green Bay on Thursday night.

Jake Elliott drilled a 61-yard field goal as time expired to give the Philadelphia Eagles a 27-24 victory over the New York Giants.

The Monday night game pits the Dallas Cowboys against the Arizona Cardinals.

The Cubs beat the Brewers 5-0 behind the second Major League shutout for Jose Quintana, who threw a three-hitter. The Cubs reduced their magic number to two to clinch the division. The Cubs and Cardinals begin a series tonight at Busch Stadium with Jon Lester on the mound for the Cubs while the Cardinals send out Luke Weaver.
The White Sox dethroned the Royals 8-1 as Avisail Garcia drove in three runs to support seven strong mound innings from Lucas Giolito. The Sox host the Angels tonight as Ricky Nolasco has the ball for the Halos against James Shields for the Sox.
The Arizona Diamondbacks clinched a National League wild card spot.
Illinois State senior placekicker Sean Slattery is the Missouri Valley Football Conference special teams player of the week. Slattery connected on two field goals, including a season-best 48-yarder and kicked four touchbacks in the Redbirds’ win over Missouri State.
Justin Thomas captured the $10 million FedEx Cup by finishing second at the PGA Tour Championship yesterday. Thomas earned five victories this year, including his first major at the PGA Championship. Xander Schauffele sank a three-foot birdie putt on the final hole to win the tournament by one shot over Thomas.
Kyle Busch has landed a berth in the second round of NASCAR’s Cup playoffs by taking yesterday’s race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. Busch started from the pole slipped through smoke from a multi-car crash on the backstretch before finishing just ahead of Kyle Larson.
Dwyane Wade is about to become a free agent, and he’s hoping that doesn’t last for long. Wade and the Chicago Bulls have agreed to terms on a buyout agreement.
