The Pontiac Kiwanis met Wednesday for lunch and heard from representatives from Republic Services, which manages the Livingston Landfill and garbage collection for Livingston County.

Operations manager Bill Janes and Republic Environmental Manager Eric Dippon gave a history on the landfill, plans for the future and what they’re doing now. With the landfill a landmark of sorts in the county, Dippon shared lesser known information about it.

“I think the fact that it is an engineered feature – it has a liner system, a leachate management system, a gas collection system, a vinyl cover system that’s going to be protective of the environment and the surroundings,” Dippon said.
