While the state legislators came to an education funding decision just as school was starting, the payments that were owed to the schools are now coming in, slowly but surely.
Pontiac District 90 Superintendent Jon Kilgore was asked recently if the payments were coming in as scheduled, and knowing the funding decision wouldn’t make it happen overnight, he explained that they are starting to roll in.
“As scheduled? While they were trying to sort things out, we didn’t receive payments for the first couple of months, but that’s water under the bridge now. We did get made up for some state aid payments for September, so we, more or less, received three months there. We did actually receive some of the money they shorted us last year. Categorical payments in the form of special education, for example. We did receive some of those toward the beginning of the year, and we do appreciate the Comptroller releasing those,” Kilgore said.
A forum with Kilgore is available at WJEZ.com, where he explains other positive things happening for the district.
