The high school football playoffs open this weekend with limited action tonight. Prairie Central visits perennial power Rochester in a Class 4A opener at 7:00 that can be heard on 98.9 WJEZ-FM and on WJEZ.com. Also tonight in Class 2A, Eureka visits Byron and Paxton-Buckley-Loda travels to Peotone.
Homecoming Saturday at the University of Illinois finds the Badgers of Wisconsin visiting Memorial Stadium for an 11 a.m. kick-off and a 10 a.m. Illini Sports Network pre-game on 98.9 WJEZ.
Radio Bloomington features live play-by-play of four area first round high school football games on Saturday, all on WJBC.com. Our action starts at 1:00 at Normal Community High School as Downers Grove North visits in Class 7A. Two games kick off at 2:00 on WJBC.com as Normal West hosts Blue Island Eisenhower in Class 6A and Central Catholic hosts Beardstown in Class 3A. High school girls volleyball regional winners include Lexington over host Danville Schlarman, Flanagan-Cornell in three sets over Milford at Grant Park and Blue Ridge in straight sets over Armstrong at LeRoy in Class 1A. In Class 2A, Tri-Valley beat host El Paso-Gridley, Dee-Mack topped visiting Tremont and Eureka crushed host St. Bede. Heyworth lost a heartbreak to host Watseka. In Class 3A, U-High cruised over Central Catholic at Prairie Central. In Class 4A, Bloomington lost in straight sets to Pekin in Champaign and Normal Community defeated Moline at Ottawa.
The World Series resumes tonight in Houston with the Astros and Dodgers tied at one game each. Yu Darvish throws for Los Angeles while Lance McCullers takes the ball for the Stros. Games 4 and 5 are Saturday and Sunday, also in Houston.
