The University of Illinois athletic department says it’s set the goal of raising $300 million as part of the school’s “With Illinois” university-wide fundraising initiative. The Division of Intercollegiate Athletics says that of that goal – it has earmarked $200 million for capital projects, $70 million for scholarships and $30 million for student-athlete enhancement efforts. The overall $2.25 billion campus fundraising campaign runs through 2022.
This classic Fall Classic is going to a Game 7. The Dodgers forced the deciding contest with a 3-1 win over the Astros in Game 6. The Dodgers’ bullpen worked 4 1/3 shutout innings as Corey Seager broke the tie with a sacrifice fly in a two-run sixth inning. Joc Pederson added a home run in the seventh. Lance McCullers is on the mound tonight for the Astros against Yu Darvish for the Dodgers in tonight’s Game 7 in Los Angeles.
Illinois State women’s basketball coach Kristen Gillespie makes her debut on the Redbird bench in the team’s lone exhibition game tonight. Eureka College visits Redbird Arena for a 7 o’clock tip.
Illinois State men’s basketball has added some needed depth with walk-on Luke Litwiller from Olympia High School. He was an all-stater last season with the Spartans, averaging 15 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. The Redbirds have been dealing with pre-season injuries as seven-footer David Ndiaye is out up to six weeks with a stress fracture in his right foot.
Georgia, Alabama, Notre Dame and Clemson are the top four teams in the first College Football Playoff rankings of the season.
Bears coach John Fox says tight end Zach Miller is “progressing well” after surgery to save his left leg. Miller tore an artery while dislocating his knee while trying to make a touchdown catch on Sunday in New Orleans.
