The Houston Astros are World Series champions for the first time, just four years after losing more than 100 games in 3 consecutive seasons. The Stros took game 7 of the world series 5-1 over the dodgers. George Springer who hit his world series record tying 5th homerun was named series MVP.

 

The Illinois State women rolled past Eureka 80-54 in an exhibition game at Redbird Arena. It was Kristen Gillespie’s first game as ISU coach. The Redbirds open the season at Oakland in Rochester, Mich. on Nov. 11.

 

U-High won the Class 3A volleyball sectional championship at Pontiac with a straight-set win over Manteno. The Pioneers will play in the Super-Sectional tomorrow night against host Tinley Park.

 

Lexington is a sectional champion in Class 1A. The Lady Minutemen ousted Cissna Park at Woodland and will play Newark in the Serena Super-Sectional on Friday. Eureka beat Dee-Mack to take the Class 2A Farmington Sectional.

 

Corey Crawford stopped 35 shots at the Blackhawks blanked the Flyers 3-0 in Chicago.

 

The Bulls lost in Miami 97-91.
