Fairbury PD nabbs guns, ammunition during traffic stop

Fairbury Police arrested a Texas man on felony charges late November 8 after multiple guns and ammunition were found inside his semi-trailer.

According to Fairbury Police Chief Mark Travis, Francisco Rios Mendes of Dallas was pulled over at Center and Church streets in Forrest for a speeding violation. During the stop, officers found an loaded AK-47 semi-automatic rifle, a loaded Glock 9MM pistol, unloaded S&W Revolver and multiple loaded rifle and pistol magazines along with 357 ammunition.

Mendez was taken into custody for aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, which is a felony.

Agencies also involved with the stop included Pontiac Police K9 Unit and the Livingston County Sheriff’s Police.
