County examines H&E Building’s future

The Livingston County Board has chosen to hire engineering and architectural firm The Farnsworth Group to study the current H&E Building on Torrance Avenue, to help the county decide how to move forward with either building a new facility or finding another building to call home.

Chairman Bob Young said the county has known for awhile this day would come, and expects the Group to have some suggestions for the board within a month or so.

“We have crossed our fingers for a couple winters. The boiler is in really bad shape. It’s just an old, old building. It’s not handicapped acceptable. The air conditioning and ventilation system is bad. There’s asbestos in it. We know it’s time. We’ve looked at it before, but the time has come that we need to do something to replace that building. We’ve hired Farnsworth to do a needs assessment study of the building to see what we really do need,” Young said.
