A Dwight man died after a garage fire led to cardiac arrest Saturday evening in Dwight.
According to Grundy County Coroner John Callahan, 53-year-old Donald Heinrich was in his garage when a fire occurred. Heinrich, who was an amputee in a motorized wheelchair at the time, was thrown from his chair for an unknown reason and was unable to crawl out of the garage. EMS was able to rescue him from the garage, but went into cardiac arrest and was transported to Morris Hospital.
Heinrich suffered burns on his body. Preliminary cause of death indicated a cardiac event that could have been accelerated by the traumatic event that occurred in the garage. This incident remains under investigation.
