The Steelers beat the Packers 31-28 while the Colts lost 20-16 to Tennessee. Other NFL winners were the Rams, Arizona, Oakland, Seattle, Carolina, New England, Buffalo, Cincinnati and Atlanta. The Houston Texans visit the Baltimore Ravens in the Monday night game.
Illinois women’s basketball lost 97-68 at New Mexico.
​Illinois State women’s basketball improved to 2-2 with a 64-53 win over UMKC on Sunday at Redbird Arena. Hannah Green led the Redbirds with 20 points and 9 rebounds. The Redbird women host SIUE on Thursday evening.
Illinois Wesleyan women’s basketball edged Rose-Hulman 60-59 in the third place game of the Midwest Challenge at DePauw University.
The IWU men held off run-and-gun Rhodes College 123-104 in Memphis.
Post-season volleyball bids were announced Sunday night. Illinois is one of eight Big Ten Conference teams to earn an NCAA berth with a first round match against Hawaii on Saturday in Seattle. Penn State is the overall Number 1 seed, joining the B1G’s Nebraska, Minnesota, Michigan, Michigan State, Purdue and Wisconsin in the tournament. League champion Missouri State and Northern Iowa earned bids from the Missouri Valley Conference. Illinois State volleyball continues play in the National Invitational Volleyball Championship, facing IUPUI on Thursday afternoon in Green Bay.
The University of Tennessee is reportedly backing down from naming Greg Schiano as its new football coach. Backlash from Volunteers fans over Schiano’s possible ties to the child abuse scandal at Penn State is reportedly leading to the reversal.
Recapping the Route 17 Thankgiving Classic crossover games from Saturday in boys high school basketball in games played at Woodland and Dwight, Ridgeview captured the title with a 67-56 win over Momence, Flanagan-Cornell took third place over Grant Park 66-60, Leland-Earlville beat Woodland for fifth 58-42 and Paw Paw knocked off Dwight 91-80 for seventh place. All-tournament team selections included Dakota Wahl of Dwight, Collin Hjerpe of Woodland, Jeremy Durdan of Flanagan-Cornell and Alex Tongate and Jacob Donaldson of Ridgeview.
