For the entire month of December, the Pontiac Public Library will be holding special programs that will benefit those who need a little extra help through the winter months.
Director Kristin Holzhauer said they will be doing the Food for Fines, which reduces any fines a person may have if they bring in boxed, canned or other non perishable foods throughout the month. They are also doing the annual Mitten Tree.
“It’s a tree where folks can donate hats, gloves and mittens and those items are sent to the school district here in town, Districti 429, to be given to children in need to keep warm this winter. We have a secondary donation spot at the Pointe (of Pontiac) this year. They’re partnering with us for the Mitten Tree, so if you’re visiting loved ones at the Pointe or happen to be out that way, they will also take your donation. We’ll collect all those goods on January 6, and then we will donate those to the schools,” Holzhauer said.
The library is located at 211 E. Madison Street. For more information, call 844-7229.
