The Fighting Illini are home tonight at the Longwood Lancers come to State Farm Center. After a 6-0 start, Illinois has lost four out of five. We have the game tonight at 6 on WJEZ.

 

In high school basketball, as heard on WJEZ, El Paso-Gridley topped Flanagan-Cornell 68-49 behind 34 points from Aaron Steiner, LeRoy won big over Lexington 60-39, Pontiac best host Spring Valley Hall 75-69, at the Colmone Classic at Spring Valley. In girls basketball Dwight beat Reed Custer 49-45, Prairie Central was  a 43-34 winner over Tri-Valley. Fieldcrest needed three overtimes to hold off Putnam County 60-55.

 

Pontiac’s wrestling team split its two home matches, topping IVC 47-28 then falling to Priarie Central 45-24. The Indians are 4-5 on the season.

 

The Chicago Blackhawks won third straight, 3-2 in overtime over the Florida Panthers.

 

Illinois State senior defensive back Davontae Harris has been named a second-team All-American by Associated Press. Harris will play in the prestigious East West Shrine Game next month.

 

A former Redbird who tried out for the Chicago Bears and Tampa Bay Buccaneers has signed with Bloomington’s indoor football team. Offensive lineman Kyle Avaloy played on that 2014 Redbird squad that played in the FCS title game.

 

Missouri Valley Conference Commission Doug Elgin has been chosen for induction into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame in January. Elgin has been the Valley’s longest serving commissioner. He’s been the commissioner for 30 years.
