High school holiday tournament basketball rolls on today.
At the Pontiac boys tournament, Bloomington advanced to the quarterfinals with a 72-44 blowout of Joliet West and Pontiac lost to top seed Chicago Simeon 89-59. Bloomington faces Oak Park River Forest at 11:00 this morning and Pontiac takes on Bloom Township at 6:00 tonight. The Pontiac-Bloom Township game can be heard on 98.9 WJEZ and WJEZ.com. State Farm Holiday Classic action features the semifinal round and the conclusion of consolation play. Normal Community and Central Catholic both have girls and boys in the semifinals. Normal Community boys advanced with a 55-51 win over Rock Island and the Iron girls with a 44-33 victory over Wheaton Warrenville South. Central Catholic girls came from behind for a 56-44 quarterfinal win over Brimfield while the Saints boys routed Rock Falls 73-38. Today’s semifinals include Normal Community boys against Wheaton Warrenville South at 4:00, the Central Catholic girls taking on Danville Schlarman at 5:30, the Normal Community girls versus Richwoods at 7:00 and the Central Catholic boys against Quincy Notre Dame at 8:30.Girls semifinals are at Normal Community High School with boys semifinals at Shirk Center. The third place and championship games in all four divisions will take center stage tomorrow at Shirk Center.
At the Marseilles boys tournament, Flanagan-Cornell beat Serena 55-49 and Dwight edged Midland 60-54 while Putnam County topped Woodland 54-49.
Flanagan-Cornell-Woodland girls lost 36-29 to Pawnee and Olympia beat Ramsey 60-20 in the TCSV tournament.
Earlville-Leland nipped Dwight 47-41 to win the Earlville girls tournament.
The Illinois Wesleyan men were held to a season low in scoring in a 72-56 loss to host Emory University in Atlanta. The Titans conclude play in Atlanta with a 1:00 Central time tip against Birmingham Southern College.
Central Illinois Flying Aces hockey hosts the Des Moines Buccaneers tonight at 7:00.
