Scam calls increase around the holidays, but there seems to be no shortage of new ones throughout the entire year.

Livingston County Sheriff Tony Childress said from people asking you to send the money to the dreaded call that a family member is in jail, the scams never end, but, he says his office is there to help verify whether any of it is true or not.

“They’re trying to scam you saying your family member is in jail and if you do not send us money, they’re not going to get out. Please, please do not fall for those scams. Do not send people money based upon a phone call like that. Please feel free to call the sheriff’s office and verify that your family member is in jail. If it’s another jail somewhere in another part of the country, we will help you verify that. That’s what we’re here for,” Childress said.

His office can be reached at 815-844-2774.
